Camping in Style

February is a naturally chilly month anywhere you go in the great NW.
In Klamath Falls it is especially crisp. However the frosty February days have not deterred my craving for adventure, my longing to wander the great outdoors. For Valentines Day, I got a lovely surprise: Sean took me camping.

Generally speaking, I am not a huge proponent of Valentines Day. I guess I am neither for, or against it. But this Valentines Day is one for the books.

Tuesday February 14th, 2012- My early afternoon at work was less than pleasant. And by that I mean chaotic, I-want-to yank my hair out, kind of pleasant. There were a hullabaloo of screaming children, we ran out of what felt like every key ingredient, and dishes were piled everywhere. When my shift ended I remembered the Hallmark holiday as I walked toward the door and saw a rose by the cash register.

I decided to take a moment to pause and breath deeply (I know, so zen). As I looked around the coffee shop I saw little girls dressed up in red and pink tutus with heart clips in their hair. I saw a couple holding hands looking longingly into one another's eyes. It was a classic hearts and butterflies moment. Sean met me outside the shop and we walked to the bus station hand in hand. When we got to our stop we walked around downtown Klamath, reminiscing about our countless phone calls back and forth. He showed me the stairwells, steps and alleys he'd sit at as we would talk the nights away. Those days apart over the past year seemed so incredibly long! After our stroll we opted for a "no dishes" night (as we have no dish washer and our hands seem to constantly resemble prunes) and called into our favorite place-Hurry Curry. Hands down the best Indian food I have ever had, not to mention the sweetest people run it.

And so we curled up on the floor, turned on 30Rock and ate our zucchini curry lentils and chicken (with fresh flat bread to polish off every last scrap). After dinner I was off to dance class.

Yes, I am taking a modern dance class and it is phenomenal. I find that it is an incredible blend of artistic expression and exercise. Sean dropped me off then picked me back up an hour later. As we approached our doorway he told me to wait just one minute and darted inside. After said time passed he opened the door with a grin. I stepped in our little home and was met with a surprise.
A campground.

The moonlight shone through the windows and the flicker of the "campfire light" ( in our case, oil lamps) illuminated the rest of the scene. Our tent was assembled on our bed (which was a perfect fit) and the sleeping bag and pillows were all set up. Smores were all ready in ice-cream form and two chairs were set up around the "fire".
It was marvelous.

Needless to say it was the sweetest thing and I was one happy camper.

In other February news we have had the pleasure of having dear friends and family come down to visit. One weekend both Sean and my parents came down and the six of us stayed at the Running Y (similar to Sun River) just outside of Klamath Falls. It was a lovely weekend of relaxing eating, golfball hunting, and bonding with our dear parents. Just last weekend three of some of our closest friends came down from Seattle. It was a cozy weekend: two air mattresses and our bed set up in our studio.
But it was one to remember- Walmart trips, matching sweatshirts, pizza, Crater Lake and snow shoeing. This coming weekend my friend Hana is hopping the train down to ol' Kfalls.
I feel so incredibly blessed by all our fantastic friends and family that have come down, which i'd say are one in the same. So if you decide to come to Klamath in the next four months, Sean and I are becoming expert tour guides...
